Consumer Edge U.S. Transaction Data provides visibility into spending trends at over 13,000 brands, ranging from large multinational companies to smaller newcomers across the consumer landscape. Amid the surge in popularity of AI, we examine the growth trajectory of categories and brands in this important space.

We have created custom categories based on the AI brands CE currently tracks, comparing spend between December 2023 and April 2024. The Productivity and Text Tools categories are the clear winners, followed by Business and Art/Video. Photo Editing is the laggard, as the brands we track showed a decline over the past several months.

Taking things a step further and diving into the categories themselves, we see a lot of strong growth for many brands:

  • In Art/Video, Ideogram – a text-to-image AI tool, has experienced the fastest growth, growing spend by 586% between December 2023 and April 2024
  • Triple Whale, an e-commerce data instrument, and Copy.AI, a sales and marketing automation tool, lead the pack in the Business category, achieving 629% and 569% growth respectively when comparing spend in December 2023 vs. April 2024.
  • While the category as a whole saw negative growth, there were some bright spots in the Photo Editing group, as both Pixelcut and Pixlr, two photo and image editing tools, saw positive spend growth rates, both around 10%.
  • AI chat-bot powered research tool, Perplexity, easily tops the list of brands in the Productivity category, hitting a spend growth rate of 236%
  • The amateur writers of the world must be busy using HyperWrite, an AI tool that helps users transform their writing quickly and easily, as the brand saw a spend growth rate or 67% when comparing spend in December 2023 to spend in April 2024
  • While not included in the charts above, Suno – a song creation AI tool that generates a song off of a user’s typed description, saw huge growth at 1,571%.
