Insight Flash: Consumer Edge Transaction Data Shows Effect of Victoria’s Secret Cybersecurity Breach on Sales.
Following a well-publicized cybersecurity breach, Victoria’s Secret & Co. (VSCO) temporarily shut down its www.victoriassecret.com storefront on May 26, 2025 through May 29. Consumer Edge Transact US data captured the disruption to the brand’s ecommerce operations, reflecting zero online transactions for March 27, 28 and 29.

It is of note that not only did total spend for Victoria’s Secret fall off on the impacted days, which would reflect the online issues, but offline spend for the company saw a meaningful dip, as well. This could have been due to negative associations shoppers made with the company while the cybersecurity incident remained ongoing, choosing to avoid even their physical stores.

Shoppers’ ire did not last, however. The brand’s sales quickly rebounded as the digital storefront came back online and actually increased over previously-normal levels, suggesting that at least some temporarily-deprived customers made up for lost time.
While company management surely cannot have enjoyed the cybersecurity headache, it may be of consolation that no other peers seem to have benefited much from the outage. Looking at competitors like AERIE, ADORE ME, SOMA and INTIMISSIMI, none saw a boost during the days www.victoriassecret.com was down. In fact, Victoria’s Secret is such a large component of Consumer Edge’s Intimate Apparel/Accessories subindustry category (the largest constituent, by far) that the whole category registered spend volumes 12-24% lower than the average day since the start of VSCO’s fiscal Q2.

Between their impact on the overall category and the lack of shift in shopper attention/spend, VSCO management should be able to rest easy knowing that, for the time being, their status at the top of the totem appears solid.
